Fire-resistant and moisture-resistant gypsum boards had been developed in the late Nineteen Fifties and early 1960s. Another innovation got here in 1988 with the improvement of managed density (CD) ceiling board. In this product, the core is compressed in such a way as to create thin, dense layers of gypsum on each aspects of a fashionable density core. Although CD board is 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) thick, it is greater resistant to sagging than traditional gypsum board that is 0.62 inch (15.7 mm) thick.

Differences in material selection for gypsum cores

High quality gypsum board uses high-purity gypsum ore as the raw material, while inferior gypsum board lacks control over the purity of the raw material. Low purity gypsum ore contains a large amount of harmful substances, which can greatly affect the performance of gypsum boards. Clay and salt can affect the bonding performance of paper surface and gypsum core. From the appearance, it can be seen that the core of a good paper gypsum board is white, while the core of a poor paper gypsum board turns yellow (containing clay) and has a dull color.

Paper surface bonding

Use a paper cutter to make a 45 degree "fork" on the surface of the gypsum board, and then uncover the paper surface at the intersection. It can be found that the high-quality paper surface of the gypsum board is still well bonded to the gypsum core, and the gypsum core body is not exposed; Poor quality gypsum board paper can tear off most or even all of the paper surface, and the gypsum core is completely exposed.
